About Gene Smith
E. Gene Smith (1936-2010) was a pioneering scholar who dedicated his life to preserving Tibetan Buddhist literature. Through his work at the Library of Congress and later the Tibetan Buddhist Resource Center, he catalogued and preserved thousands of rare texts that might otherwise have been lost.
This memorial library continues his legacy by making these precious texts freely accessible to the Tibetan community and scholars worldwide, ensuring that the wisdom of Tibetan Buddhism remains available for future generations.
